iCEV’s brand-new STEM site is a comprehensive curriculum, created to simplify the planning process for teachers. Regardless of environment and budget, our team has developed materials to facilitate an engaging, educational experience.
iCEV’s STEM site includes two new lesson types, Design Challenges and Lab Challenges, to provide students a hands-on approach to learning STEM concepts. Lab Challenges provide opportunities for students to connect educational concepts with hands-on projects through analyzing, evaluating and creating. Additionally, these lessons also incorporate concepts from multiple lessons to synthesize the information students are learning throughout a course.
What’s Included in Lab Challenges?
Each iCEV lesson is created to simplify the planning process for teachers, which allows them to spend more time working with students. Within the STEM curriculum, Lab Challenges encompass printable lesson materials, student materials and instructional videos.
Teachers have access to lesson objectives, material lists, a prep guide and instructions for leading the lab. Additionally, instructional videos are included for teachers to help teachers prepare to lead the lab.
Not only are teachers provided the tools and resources to be successful, but students also receive materials to set them up for success. Each lesson includes a printable lab report. Student reports include critical thinking questions for pre-and-post lab, classroom procedures and a sheet for data collection.
How do Lab Challenges fit into my Classroom?
iCEV’s Lab Challenges were created to fit the needs of students, teachers and their classrooms. Lab Challenges can be used in various ways to fit into CTE classrooms. Whether teachers are planning for a traditional class, modifications or for a substitute teacher, the curriculum is there to support you.
Lab Challenges are designed to be taught in one class. However, teachers can split up the materials and activities over multiple class periods as needed. Additionally, if teachers or students are absent, they can follow along with the lesson using student licenses. Students learning from a distance can review the videos and complete the lesson's interactive activities on iCEV. Students who need modifications can also benefit by accessing the materials before the class.
Providing modifications and accommodations to students ensures all student's needs are being met within the classroom. Within Lab Challenges, teachers can easily accommodate and modify lessons to fit the needs of their students.
For example, ELL students can watch and read through the instructions prior to beginning the lab. If students are absent or learning from home, lab challenges can stay on track by completing the work and watching the videos associated with the lab. Additionally, these challenges make it easy for students to continue learning while teachers are absent, and substitutes are filling in.
iCEV's Lab Challenges were created to engage students with STEM components. Within the challenges, students are challenged to learn scientific principles using problem-solving. Each lesson is created to equip both teachers and students to be successful within the classroom.
